Traditionally, setting up a hemodialysis center is very complicated due to the complexity of fluid and electricity layouts and thus, it requires intensive laboring and consumes a lot of time to design and create the partitions. Fixed partitions make it very difficult to access fluid pipes and electricity lines when repairs or maintenance are needed. In addition, fixed partitions need to be discarded when moving a hemodialysis center which is a waste on materials and manpower. Furthermore, most centers are designed with open space which in one hand makes it easy for physicians and nurses to monitor patients, but on the other hand sacrificing patient privacy.
In order to address the above issues, we have designed a new "Integrated Dialysis Module System" for hemodialysis centers. This new system utilizes easy-assembled partitions and modulized metal cover system for fluid pipes and electricity lines. Therefore, it allows setting up or moving of an a hundred bed hemodialysis center within one day and without waste. The module is arranged as a business class cabin format with fish-boned alignments. This type of alignment allows more patient privacy without intervening staff and patient interactions. Patient privacy is also important nowadays where personalized equipments such as smartphones or tablets are very popular. In summary, the proposed design creates a new standard to set up a state-of-the art hemodialysis center efficiently. For a dialysis chain that owns thousands of dialysis centers, the potential saving of using this new system can be as much as billion US dollar a year.
For a dialysis chain that owns thousands of dialysis centers, the potential saving of using this new system can be as much as one billion US dollar a year. For a nephrologist who wishes to start his/her own dialysis unit. It costs around 3.5 million U.S.D. to set up a 30-bed dialysis unit. That’s a high entry barrier. By using this new technology. The cost is down to 500,000 U.S.D. or even less, which every nephrologist can afford. Nowadays, cost-down is the Bible for every business, including ours. Hollowfiber reuse, can only save as much as 5 U.S.D. per dialysis treatment. By using this new technology, you can save 20 U.S. Dollars per treatment.
